Recreation area de Vleijen

The Vleijen recreational area is located between Nes and Buren on Ameland. The winding shell paths take you past dunes, trees, shrubs and water. Perfect for the children: they can have fun with the various play equipment that is there, such as slides, a raft and a castle.

Mudflat walking from the harbor

What could be a better way to enjoy nature than to walk the mudflats? You can book a mudflat excursion in the port of Ameland. During the low tide, the sandbanks dry up and it becomes possible to walk on the bottom of the Dutch Wadden Sea. You can then take a walking tour under the guidance of a guide.

Authentic villages

Hollum, Ballum, Nes and Buren are characteristic villages with monumental buildings. You can easily taste the historical atmosphere with the best restaurants and shops.

Renting bicycles

With more than 100km of bicycle path, Ameland is the perfect Wadden island to rent bicycles, this is also possible directly in the harbor of Nes. Several cycling routes have been created that are also very suitable for children. And did you know that you can reach the North Sea beach in 15 minutes by bike?

The nicest family restaurant in Ameland is “De Piraat”. In the harbor of Nes you can enjoy excellent dishes and a beautiful view in this restaurant, while the children can have fun in the large children’s play cave.
