Visit the Nicolaaskerk on Vlieland

Take a look inside the church. A house of God without frills, according to romantics once “jumbled together” in poverty. Visitors to the Nicolaaskerk are surrounded by one chunk of history. The past nestles in the wooden column that separates the northern and southern parts of the church. Tough buttresses with original masts of a sailing ship stranded on Vlieland. Stories from the past are hidden behind the beautiful church interior. The age-old sailor church of Vlieland is much more than just a building for weekly worship. The place of worship has also been a worthy stage for various ‘fine arts’ under the banner of Culture by Candlelight and Concerts by Candlelight for years. The Tromp’s Huys on Vlieland

Tromp’s Huys is the oldest building in East Vlieland. At the door is one of the proud cannons of the faded gold ship La Lutine. The building (anno 1575) owes its name to the personal admiration of residents for admiral Maarten Tromp and his son Commander in Chief Cornelis Tromp. Do not think that Museum Tromp’s Huys is limited to the exclusive legacy of the last resident Betzy Akersloot-Berg. Naturally, the stately sloping building in the Dorpsstraat generously breathes the atmosphere of sea painters, but these thickly plastered walls tell more stories … sail with us and we will discover them together …

Take a seat in a solo or love seat in room 1 of Podium Vlieland. That name suggests that there are several spaces and that is somewhat correct: the island itself is a defenseless stage without borders. Podium Vlieland is synonymous with “exciting events”.
